Physical Changes
Over the course of the summer, our athletic facilities got a facelift. Let’s take a look at some of the physical changes made to Sterling High School over the summer.
One of the most apparent changes was the new bleachers in the fieldhouse. Once a neutral tan color, the bleachers are now a bright blue and gold with our “S” logo in the middle. The bleachers are part of a massive upgrade to the fieldhouse, which with a timeline starting this summer and looking at ending sometime around next summer.
In addition to the bleachers, one of the most monumental changes to the fieldhouse was the relocation of the athletic training room. By moving to this new location, Athletic Trainer Andi Sumerfelt now has room for “a whirlpool room with three whirlpools,” she said. Additionally, Sumerfelt is now able to create a rehabilitation center to strengthen athletes after returning from an injury.
Even our fresh, new stadium got some updates! On the way to the stadium, a new concrete pad was poured in the area known as “the Challand section.” With the new pad, more area is covered and there is no longer a step down from the doorway, making the area generally smoother.
In the same fashion, our visiting guest section has been upgraded as well. With a new cement pad there as well, we’ve tied the section together and increased our hospitality for visiting teams.
Lastly, you may have noticed a change in the signs around the stadium. Formerly Sterling Chevrolet Field, our field is now named Prescott Memorial Field. Following the ending of a contract with Sterling Chevrolet, Candlelight took up the sponsorship opportunity.
We are fortunate to have such nice facilities and the ability to perform upkeep on them, so make sure to take full advantage of everything Sterling High School has to offer!
