Adulting 101

The idea of “adulting” is something that most high school students may see as a skill they can learn “when they grow up”. Upon reviewing a number of senior surveys Sterling High School has taken a more proactive role in equipping students with the tools they will need as self sufficient adults. “Adulting 101” was created to fill in the gaps that a typical high school curriculum would lack. We wanted to give students an opportunity to concentrate more time on the skills that are often more practical, “useable”, and analytical than the traditional academic workload.

Adulting 101 was created as a response to the skills that most millenials are lacking in their personal finances, organization, presentation, and management skills. Though younger generations often exceed expectations in their job performance, they are often lacking in the areas that are not taught in school. This semester long course is rooted in 6 main units that cover topics ranging from all aspects of personal finance and investing, education, careers, insurance, housing, and housework / maintenance. Equipping our students with these tools can only increase their chances of success in both the job market, and to the delight of their parents, personal independence.
