LIBRARY MISSION:
The mission of the Sterling High School Library is to empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users and creators of information through direct instruction with students, collaboration with staff, and a vibrant library program that provides a variety of services, and resources. The SHS Library will work with faculty to assist students in becoming college and career ready, ensuring that students have access to the following:
Space that encourages students to invent and stretch their creativity by working with their peers and staff on both content and leisure activities.
An environment that encourages risk taking and a culture that respects ideas as new ones are encountered.
Access to information that allows students and staff to explore the world in which we live.
Opportunities for students to become lifelong learners and lovers of literature.
LIBRARY VISION:
The Sterling High School Library is the hub of the school for both students and teachers. It encourages creativity, collaboration, and content exploration. It educates students in research and critical 21st century learning skills. Most importantly, the library focuses on helping students develop a lifelong love of reading. It is a warm and inviting place and feels like the heart of the school. Staff works with the librarian to ensure that students have access to information that allows them to delve deeper into course material.
COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY:
The Sterling High School Library provides a collection of richly diverse materials that enriches and supports the curriculum of the Sterling Public School District. In addition, all materials considered for inclusion in the Sterling Public Schools libraries must meet the individual, education, emotional, and recreational needs of students, faculty, and staff.
